Elske Verdoorn (1986, Leeuwarden, The Netherlands) studied photography at The Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam. She morphs these fields of interest into socially engaged art projects. It is her intention to create a stage for those who are easily overlooked. She works in collaboration with her subject, inviting them to be part of the creative process and allowing their voices to be heard.
Elske mainly works with photography and video, but she likes to adapt her method and materials to the subject. Elske was featured as ‘one to watch’ in the British Journal of Photography Talent Issue of 2016. Her work was featured in international and national publications, shown in group exhibitions at Unseen Photo Fair (Amsterdam), Beelddragers x10 (Amsterdam) and 3M ArtFoundation (Santa Marta, Colombia). She had her first duo-show in Het Nutshuis, The Hague in 2017.
